How artist Curtis Wallen used the dark / deep web to create a person and identity  who doesnt exist except electronically

Curtis Wallen is a Brooklyn-based photographer and visual artist. But, since January 2013, Wallen has been using the Deep Web to systematically create Aaron Brown, a person that doesn’t actually exist. Using Tor, Bitcoin, and various other methods, Wallen was able to procure a State of Ohio driver’s license, a boating permit, State Farm insurance card, Comcast cable bill (for proof of address), and a certified membership card for the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas.

“At the end of it all, I was left with a small pile of documents I could use to reasonably convince someone this new person was real,” writes Wallen in a blog post. “I had the physical proof of a person with an entirely digital genesis.”

Wallen even created an Aaron Brown Twitter service that anyone could use, which he describes as “reverse astroturfing”; and an Aaron Brown proxy server.

“I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if I could fabricate a new physical person using the Deep Web, Tor, Bitcoin, and all of these technologies available to subvert digital tracking, and see how far I could push it’,” Wallen said in an interview [view].

Below, in the short documentary I directed, Wallen goes into detail on the Deep Web birth of Aaron Brown, including how he created this fake alter ego’s face.

A decent position in the search results is a sure fire way of making more money online.
But to do that, you need to make sure your site gets crawled. Here, I'll take you through the basics of how Google crawls the web and what you can do to help it. You might be surprised how easy it is.

So, let’s start at the beginning. Google searches the web. This much you probably know. Then it ranks all the sites and matches them to your query, in order of relevance and authority. SEOs spend a lot of time talking about this part, but much less time talking about how Google actually looks at sites. But it’s important - Google can’t put your site at the top of the search engine results if it doesn’t know you exist.

What actually is ‘Google’?
Whenever you read an article about SEO, the author will almost always talk about "Google" (usually not "Bing" or "the search engines" - Google’s market share is so big, that the smaller ones often don’t get mentioned). But they’re not talking about the company, with offices and marketing departments and all that. They’re talking about the Google algorithm.

The Google algorithm
, if you saw it, would look very complicated, incomprehensible even. It’s lines and lines, pages and pages, of mathematical sequences. But unless you become a search engineer at Google, you’re not going to. So phew.

What I‘m about to tell you, and indeed what anyone will ever tell you about the Google algorithm, is what’s presumed to be true. No one outside Google knows exactly how the Google algorithm works because no one has been able to see it. We, the SEO community, can only monitor and record the search results and draw assumptions based on what we see, but we can never ‘know’.

The spider
The first part of what Google does is crawl the web. I'll get onto that in a moment but there a few things we need to cover first. Whenever you read an SEO article, the verbs ‘crawl’ and ‘spider’ and (sometimes) ‘index’ are interchangeable. Google sends out what’s affectionately known as a ‘spider’ to ‘crawl’ the web, going from link to link creating a web , and cataloging, or ‘indexing’ what it sees. If you wanted to mimic the actions of the Google spider, start at a big site, like Wikipedia, and click every link you see. Then go to those pages, and click every link and so on. Once you’ve clicked a few hundred billion pages, you’ll be somewhere close.

Google’s spider can only crawl linked pages by the way - it can only access pages that you could access with a mouse. It can’t enter in login details or passwords, and it can’t enter terms in your search bar. As a general rule, if your page isn’t accessible by a clickable link, Google probably won’t see it.

Cache
If you asked 100 people on the street, 99 of them would tell you that Google crawls and indexes the web each and every time you searched for something. This, politely, is nonsense. Yes, Google does crawl ‘the web’, but no, it doesn’t do it in real time (or anything like it).

Google crawls a site as and when it feels it should, and creates what’s called a cache. Cache literally means ‘hidden stash’. It’s a 'screenshot' of your site that Google keeps on its servers. When you run a search, it’s the cache that’s searched, not the real thing.

It also exists as a verb. We say that Google has cached your site to mean ‘Google has seen your site and taken lots of screenshots’. (Screenshots is just a general term, but it’s a good way to visualize what happening. In reality, it stores your sites' text and links.)

So, given that it’s the cache of your site that’s searched, it’s also the cache that will affect your rankings. Google isn’t looking at what your site is like right now, it’s looking at the version that it’s cached. What does that mean in practice? Mostly, that it will take a while for any new content you add to show up in the Google rankings. And, you want to do what you can to make sure your site is cached as often as possible.

Luckily though, there’s a really simple thing you can do to make sure your site is crawled more frequently, and that’s just to add more content. Essentially, each time Google crawls your site, it monitors if there has been any changes. If there has, it makes a note, and remembers to come back a little sooner next time.

If you’re a newspaper website that uploads new content almost constantly, you’ll probably get crawled every few hours. But if you never update your content, or only do very rarely, you’ll probably be crawled every few weeks. Which is bad news.

To see when you were last crawled, just put cache:http://www.YourDomain.com (eg, cache:http://www.Buzzolo.com) into Google (or in the navigation bar if you're using Chrome), and it will tell you.
You can see that ours was crawled on the 8th, which was the day before I wrote the article. That's pretty good. (And if you can't read this, don't worry. When you do it on your computer, the text will spam the width of your browser, so it'll be much more readable.)

Don’t obsess about how often your site is crawled.
Check it once in awhile, if your site hasn’t be crawled in a while, add some more content, but otherwise, don’t stress. It's Google's job to crawl the web, and they do it really well. You no doubt will have bigger SEO fish to fry, but if you want to explore this in more detail, here are nine ways to get your site crawled quicker. So if you’re into this, have a read!

So that broadly is crawling. The next step is to ‘index’ the pages ...

The Google index is the list of all the pages that Google has cached. It’s really more of a matrix, in the mathematical sense, with axes related to the key ranking factors like authority and relevance. If that helps you visualize what’s going on, great. We can get into discussions about eigenvalues and eigenvectors another time. But if not, if your idea of the matrix is something involving Keanu Reeves, ignore what I‘ve just said. Swallow the red pill (or was it blue?), go back to your normal life, and know that the Google index is a list and you want every page on your site to be on it.

Deciding which sites go in that list, never mind what order they go in, is actually one of Google’s hardest jobs.

The web is large, very large. Google can’t crawl every page, every day, so it has to choose which fraction of the web it should crawl. It does this by looking at the sites that have the best information, presented in the most accessible way. Sites that do this will get indexed more than sites that don't.

Google will crawl most sites at some point without the site owner really doing anything. (Google, it turns out, is pretty clever.) But if you want to make the search engine's life a little easier (and get more love from it in the process), there are a few things you can do.

Link building
as well as being great for the rest of your SEO, is a really easy way of simply letting Google know that page exists. When Google crawls the site that’s linking to you, it will then ‘click’ the link and discover your page. Hooray! And of course the more links you have the more authoritative your site becomes in Google’s eyes. So build links. Now.

And that includes internal links by the way. Make sure all your best content is easy to navigate to. Put links to those pages on all the most prominent pages of your site (like, the home page) and Google will be able to find them easily and quickly.

Clean code
Imagine if you were driving somewhere, had to get there quickly, and had a choice of two routes. One would take you straight there on a highway. The other would take you on smaller country roads, most of which involves driving behind a tractor. And some of the road isn’t sealed. Which route would you choose?

If you chose the highway, congratulations, you’re thinking like Google. If your site is written using clean code, Google will read it quickly and is more likely to index you.

If you’re not quite sure what’s the difference between clean code and, er, messy code, you should read how to optimize your code,http://www.wordtracker.com/academy/seo-code
And there’s also a technical checklist you can work through.

Site speed is also a good indicator of how clean your code is, so the article I’ve just linked to will help.
http://www.wordtracker.com/academy/improve-site-speed

Good navigation To go back to the driving analogy, if you have somewhere to get to, it’s helpful to have signs to point you in the right direction, otherwise you get lost. Similarly, Google wants you to tell it where your good content is. It needs to know it can get to your best content quickly, so so it can make sure all the best of the web’s content is indexed. Good, keyword rich navigation is part of this. As is having a sitemap

A sitemap
A sitemap is a great way of making sure Google can access your best content quickly. Again, if you were in a car, you’d probably appreciate a map (or a few road signs) to make sure you don’t get lost. You want a road map, Google wants a sitemap. So make one

Google+ It sounds almost too good to be true, but Google loves crawling the sites that people share on it's own social network. So if you've created some awesome content, share it on Google+ straight away, and it's likely to get crawled quickly.

How are you doing?
So, you’ve learned some theory. But how is your site actually being viewed right now?

Google's Webmaster Tools is a brilliant (free) tool from Google that lets you see how your site is performing in Google's eyes. If you've not got an account already, it's worth setting one up as it helps you spot loads of errors with your site.

The bad news is that they don’t index content which has similar content to other pages. Content which you’ve not redirected or canonically tagged, but Google has nonetheless deemed it to be duplicate. Google doesn't like duplicate content – if it has to crawl the same content lots of times, that’s just a waste of time. And what’s another word for time? Money.

If you do have lots of duplicate content, read what we have to say about the canonical tag and redirects, and we might be able to help you.

Webmaster Tools is a really great resource to see how Google views your website. It flags up problems and let’s you ‘feed back’ to Google. You can nudge its algorithm in the right direction and see the results in the search pages.

Awesome Marketing Tips you can learn from David Ogilvy , King of Marketing

Orig published by Name.com

David Ogilvy was an advertising wizard. He moved from Great Britain to New York City to become the King of Madison Avenue. He became the King by creating some of the most iconic, and in turn, successful advertising campaigns of all time. What’s arguably just as impressive is that his marketing strategies, which he crafted from the '60s through the '80s, were so thought-provoking that they can still be applied to products and services today.

This is a selection of great thoughts from one of the great minds of marketing :

1. “In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative, original thinker unless you can also sell what you create.
Just because you’ve got a great product or service doesn’t mean that it’s going to knock it out of the ballpark sales-wise. You need to take the product or service and market it in a way that reaches and excites your target audience. Think about what you’re marketing and constantly reexamine the motivations behind the message you’re sending out about the product or service.

2. “Talent, I believe, is most likely to be found among nonconformists, dissenters, and rebels.”

Ogilvy is reminding people to think different. If you think like everybody else, you’re just going to have the same results as everybody else.
3. “If you’re trying to persuade people to do something, or buy something, it seems to me you should use their language, the language they use every day, the language in which they think. We try to write in the vernacular."
This is a reminder from Ogilvy to know your audience. If you don’t know your audience, you won’t be able to speak to them in a convincing or personalized way. Speak your audience's language.

4. “Advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals.”
This is an Ogilvy way of saying that you need to do your research and then apply what you’ve learned to your marketing strategy. You should be shaping your decisions based on thoughtful and informative research.

5. “Never stop testing, and your advertising will never stop improving.”
Keep experimenting, learn from every experiment, and apply what you’ve learned to a new experiment. It seems like intuitive advice, but it’s easy to fall into a pattern of doing what you know and not experiment with your marketing tactics.

6. “Do not … address your readers as though they were gathered together in a stadium. When people read your copy, they are alone. Pretend you are writing to each of them a letter on behalf of your client.”
The master of advertising believed that it is important to remember you’re most often talking to an individual in an advertisement, not a group of people. If you remember this, it should help you connect with customers on a more personal level.

7. “Don’t bunt. Aim out of the ballpark. Aim for the company of immortals.”

Ogilvy was a strong believer in not aiming for small achievements, but rather aiming as high as possible. He also believed that every time you make a goal, make it (at least) a little bigger than your last goal.

Four Link Building methods that will attract Traffic like no other

4 Link Building Techniques That Actually Work
  • Author Bret Donovan
It is a well-known fact that building backlinks to targeted websites/webpages is an integral part of search engine optimization, brand visibility and traffic generation online. Question is which link building methods actually work? We’re not just talking about the generic, ineffective and penalty-inducing backlink spamming that many agencies do.

We’re talking about proven, powerful and effective “white hat” link building methods used by reputable SEO firms all over the world. Well, that’s what we’ll be talking about today. In this article, we’ll be providing you with proven and guaranteed link building techniques that you can apply today in order to get significant results in your SEO campaigns.

Create Epic Content
Now, more than ever, excellent content is king. We’re not just talking about the generic, wishy-washy content that can be found on hundreds of blogs. We’re talking about “stand out of the crowd” content. We’re talking powerful, can’t-ignore content that people want to bookmark, share and send to their friends and colleagues.

The content could be in any form including texts, videos, audios/podcasts and infographics among others. To help you understand, take a look at the content on some popular blogs in your niche or industry. Always use them as your reference point. For your content to stand out, it should have four crucial elements:

  • It must be packed with top-notch information that people can use immediately and get some results.
  • Specificity is key. It should help people solve a particular/specific problem. For example, I would pick content with specific, step-by-step information that can help my business add 500 warm prospects/leads to my list in 2-3 weeks than a general one on the importance of building a list. Remember, it’s all about value, not length.
  • Should solve a problem (see above point) or make a difficult, tangled issue clearer and more understandable. You might want to use infographics –always an excellent choice by the way and can easily be shared around- if it’ll help your audience understand better.
  • Should be straight to the point. Make your points succinctly.
List Curation
This less used , but extremely powerful link building method can point hundreds of links to your website. The best way to do this is create a definitive resource about a specific topic in your niche of choice. You may have probably come across such lists on the internet. We’re not talking about the generic watered down type.

We’re talking about AMAZING lists that people can consult or even use in the future. An excellent example of this can be seen here. Create a list like that and you’ll be amazed at the sheer number of sites that will quote your resource and/or link back to your website without you asking them. The thing about lists like this is they often require in-depth research and time to properly curate them.

The rewards however, are worth so much more. So, learn and master the art of list curation. Here’s the good thing about great lists: they don’t have to be completed. You can periodically update them by adding new information or resources.

And it doesn’t matter what language of the content is in, this technique applies to all languages and countries. For instance, if you’re an SEO in Portugal, Brazil or any other Portuguese speaking country, your content must stand out among similar Portuguese websites to get the same results.

Guest Posting
This is one of the easiest link building methods available, and powerful too. Unfortunately, many people avoid it because of the content requirements. However, you’re at an advantage, if you know how to create excellent content considering that Google actually approves of it.

To make guest posting work, you’ll need to find high PR sites and/or websites with high domain authority –actually, a combination of both is better- in your niche and ask to write for them.

The key to getting your content accepted by these high authority websites is to create content that is valuable, informative, original and compelling. Keep those four things in mind, when you’re guest posting. Also, be sure to ask the site owners what their content requirements are. This is a sure way to get your content accepted quickly.

Blog Commenting

Okay, you probably know this already. But this technique is so powerful when used moderately and appropriately. Successful blog commenting comes from actively participating in industry related blogs.

It’s not just about dropping spammy comments everywhere –thank goodness that doesn’t work anymore. To do this, you’ll need to find the blogs, read the posts, and then make the necessary contributions –sorry, one liners won’t cut it this time. Put some thought into your posts and you’ll get your comments approved with a link to your target website.

Final Conclusion on Link Building Techniques .It’s true that there are many other link building techniques. These ones however, have been tested and tried. You may have noticed that there’s a lot of emphasis on content in this article. That’s because Google and other search engines place a lot of premium on content (the recent Hummingbird Update proves this). Most importantly, they are the best ways to attract links naturally –something Google lays emphasis on- and without risking any penalty. So, if you’re already doing this, continue. If you’re not, it’s not too late to begin.

Do you have other proven –emphasis on proven- link building techniques that have personally worked for you? Do you think we missed some powerful techniques? Sound off in the comments and let us know. We want to hear from you.

Google has added another odd place to the long, long list of sights you can see on Street View:
a real naval submarine.

More precisely, Google's Street View crew photographed the interior of the retired British submarine HMS Ocelot, The Register reports.

Where Nokia went wrong . Where they just living in the past ?

9/4/2013

Originally posted in the New Yorker online 4 Sept 2013
Nokia’s agreement on Tuesday to sell its handset business to Microsoft for $7.2 billion is something of a minor business coup for Nokia, since a year from now that business might well turn out to have been worth nothing. It also demonstrates just how far and fast Nokia has fallen in recent years. Not that long ago, it was the world’s dominant and pace-setting mobile-phone maker. Today, it has just three per cent of the global smartphone market, and its market cap is a fifth of what it was in 2007—even after rising more than thirty per cent on Tuesday.

What happened to Nokia is no secret: Apple and Android crushed it. But the reasons for that failure are a bit more mysterious. Historically, after all, Nokia had been a surprisingly adaptive company, moving in and out of many different businesses—paper, electricity, rubber galoshes. Recently, it successfully reinvented itself again. For years, the company had been a conglomerate, with a number of disparate businesses operating under the Nokia umbrella; in the early nineteen-nineties, anticipating the rise of cell phones, executives got rid of everything but the telecom business. Even more strikingly, Nokia was hardly a technological laggard—on the contrary, it came up with its first smartphone back in 1996, and built a prototype of a touch-screen, Internet-enabled phone at the end of the nineties. It also spent enormous amounts of money on research and development. What it was unable to do, though, was translate all that R. & D. spending into products that people actually wanted to buy.

One way to explain this is to point out that Nokia was an engineering company that needed more marketing savvy. But this isn’t quite right; in the early aughts, Nokia was acclaimed for its marketing, and was seen as the company that had best figured out how to turn mobile phones into fashion accessories. It’s more accurate to say that Nokia was, at its heart, a hardware company rather than a software company—that is, its engineers were expert at building physical devices, but not the programs that make those devices work. In the end, the company profoundly underestimated the importance of software, including the apps that run on smartphones, to the experience of using a phone. Nokia’s development process was long dominated by hardware engineers; software experts were marginalized. (Executives at Apple, in stark contrast, saw hardware and software as equally important parts of a whole; they encouraged employees to work in multidisciplinary teams to design products.)

It wasn’t just that Nokia failed to recognize the increasing importance of software, though. It also underestimated how important the transition to smartphones would be. And this was, in retrospect, a classic case of a company being enthralled (and, in a way, imprisoned) by its past success. Nokia was, after all, earning more than fifty per cent of all the profits in the mobile-phone industry in 2007, and most of those profits were not coming from smartphones. Diverting a lot of resources into a high-end, low-volume business (which is what the touch-screen smartphone business was in 2007) would have looked risky. In that sense, Nokia’s failure resulted at least in part from an institutional reluctance to transition into a new era.

And there was another mistake. Nokia overestimated the strength of its brand, and believed that even if it was late to the smartphone game it would be able to catch up quickly. Long after the iPhone’s release, in fact, Nokia continued to insist that its superior hardware designs would win over users. Even today, there are people who claim that if Nokia had stuck with its own operating systems, instead of embracing the Windows Phone in 2011, it could have succeeded. But even though the Windows Phone has been a flop, the truth is that, by 2010, Nokia had already introduced too many disappointing phones, and its operating system had already proven too buggy, clunky, and unintuitive to win consumers over. In 2008, Nokia was said to have one of the most valuable brands in the world. But it failed to recognize that brands today aren’t as resilient as they once were. The high-tech era has taught people to expect constant innovation; when companies fall behind, consumers are quick to punish them. Late and inadequate: for Nokia, it was a deadly combination.

Great Tips for Increasing Adsense Earnings

Have you been there? Have you ever been frustrated out of your mind? Ready to throw in the adsense towel? Probably so, unless you are a celebrity. Even successful bloggers suffered through low-producing adsense months. Some keywords pay out big. Most keywords pay out, menz a menz. A little bit here, a little bit there. A few pennies here, a few pennies there. Or you might snag a dollar or 2 per click but snag 1 or 2 clicks daily, if that. The trick lies in the study of successful google adsense campaigns.

First thing: do not, do not, do not compare yourself to blogs like Mashable, or The Huffington Post, if your blog pales in comparison to either of these world-renowned blog. Consider modeling your blogs after these titans of the blogging world, these winners, these champions, but do not attempt to create 50 posts a day to replicate their results.

This will not work. This does work: reading my 13 tips. Following the advice I share. I have passed the penny a month club in terms of adsense revenue. I have passed the $10 per month club. I make more money because I followed the leader yet I did not compare myself to leaders. I did my best to create quality, dead on, targeted content. I lost attachment – well, at least wicked attachment – to numbers. Yes, I detached from ad outcomes to make money online.

A funny thing happens if you stop trying to make money online. You make money online with less and less effort. Cash finds you. The work part becomes play. The stress dies. The struggle dies. Fun. Easy peasy. Really.

Growth works like this; any increase is preceded by some massive release. Like in my case…..

1: Release the Idea that Volume Posting Boosts Ad Revenue Volume posters rock. But volume posters forget one key idea; people need to see your brilliance to click on your ads. Most posts go unnoticed. Oh well. Recruit a team of writers. Build your network. Grow your list. If most of your posts snag a bunch of eyeballs – that sounds graphic right? – your google adsense revenue rises.

If you are the sole writer for your blog release the idea of volume. Focus on building a resource. With each post. Make money online by creating an astounding piece of content.

2: Hold this Intent Each time I write a post – now – I visualize a reader googling a search term, finding my post, reading my post, then saying to themselves:

“That is all I need to know on that topic. Research material found. ~ Random Guy or Gal Googling Ryan’s Blog Posts”

I write paid guest posts on varying topics. I research. If I find a poorly written, thin, short article, I am annoyed. If I find a well-written, thorough article, a piece of work I can use to write a 500 to 700 word post with plenty of research data to spare, I am one happy camper.

Now, if somebody googles “google adsense”, or “how to increase google adsense earnings” to find this article I want them leaving full. I want to create resources through each post. Because google loves resources. Google loves people to find exactly what they are googling and google pays out top adsense dollar – or at least healthy adsense dollar – to people who take the time and devote energy to creating resources.

3: Target Practice
Visualize yourself shooting an arrow at a target. Now, visualize yourself publishing a post for the perfect crowd. This post would be perfect for people needing to learn more about google adsense. Excellent. So the search phrase “google adsense” pops up all over my blog. This makes sense, right?

I think so. Target practice. People who want to learn about google adsense are likely to click on my ads. More clicks, the more I make money online. The concept is simple. If you pay attention to who you want to target. Keep your target market in mind to attract interested viewers and to nail down a higher payment per click.

4: Be at Peace with Generating Pennies in the Beginning I have churned out a few sensational posts. Great. No millions yet after these posts. Some generated pennies’ worth of ad revenue. This is OK. Why? The pay off is happening now but might now show up now. Do you like that statement? Embracing the idea helps you to make money online quickly.

Drill this idea into your head; money chases value. If you create value and make friends by promoting fellow bloggers value finds you in the form of money, money making ideas and prospering relationships and situations. I learned this lesson quickly. Except “quickly” means it took me 4 years to embrace the idea versus the lifetime it takes others to hug the idea.

Money follows value but maybe not in this second. Take a deep breath. Relax. Be at peace. Relax. Detach from appearances. Relax. Good. You my friends are on the right Google Adsense track.

5: Post with Passion I have written technically sound posts which were as dry as reading a technical manual. I have written energized posts which could have raised the dead yet this was not targeted content, so I saw little google adsense revenue through these offerings. Then, wow, then I got my act together. I wrote practical, keyword-rich posts targeted at a set audience.

No more dollar a month deals! Yippee! $25. Heck, $130, I hit my payment threshold, thanks Google. Please right into my bank account please. Gracias. Hey, I post with passion much of the time. I needed to learn how to target with passion so I could make money online while traveling God’s green earth. Next trip? Well it is this Sunday, and I am flying halfway across the world….stay tuned

6: Place Adsense Ads Above the Fold After I placed google adsense ads above the fold my payout per click skyrocketed from 30 cents to over 80 cents per click. Here is the deal; if you are driving down the NJ Turnpike you note the ad plastered all over a massive billboard, a visible billboard on the road side. You do not notice an ad placed behind a building on the side of the road….only if you exit the turnpike and travel down a road with less traffic.

Posting ads below the fold reduces your impressions because many people never scroll below the fold. Advertisers have no desire to pay out for someone who hides their ads; no visibility. So get over the idea of hiding your ads, or burying ads. Post ‘em above the fold. Be obvious about it. Generating higher adsense earnings.

7: Lose this Crowd From time to time somebody tells me they wish I had not placed ads on my blog. Spoils the experience. I usually respond with….

“I wish you would not go to your job, or run your online business. It spoils my experience. I believe you are making a mistake. Sell out.”

OK maybe I reserve the harshness but I make this point: I make a living providing insane value to my audience and if people or advertisers want to pay me to be a part of this insane value I busted my ass to deliver over years, yep, I am entitled to make money.

Dolts hate ads. Usually poor people who have zero prosperity consciousness. We all deserve to get paid but some mentally-closed people cannot see this. Leave this crowd behind. Carry on.

8: Write Intriguing Titles Nobody clicks on an ad they cannot see. People who never click your links on twitter or Facebook, or who do not click your posts after scanning the title in their feedly reader, this crowd never gives you a chance to earn extra adsense dough.

Your adsense earnings increase if more people view your blog posts. I noted a quick surge in post views the moment I payed attention to which titles attracted more viewers.

Popular titles include:

  1. 12 tips to….
  2. 9 steps to….
  3. 8 reasons why….
  4. Why?
  5. How?
Easy right? Use numbers. Ask questions Watch your page views jump. Watch your adsense earnings increase. Think through creative ways to connect with more readers. Study metrics. Duplicate. Do the same thing, or write a similar themed post with similar titles to draw in interested readers and increase your ad clicks.

9: Post Multiple Ads on Your Blog Posting multiple ads increases your clicks. Think abundance. If you create intense, targeted value you have every right in the world to post ads on your blog. Remember; you built the real estate and have every right to make money on that real estate.

Post ads above the fold and below the fold. Google only allows 3 adsense ads per page; follow their rules or get banned. But do post multiple ads to increase the chances of getting some juicy clicks.

Address any fears around prospering online. Address any fears around making money online. Broke people offer broke advice, like, that you should remove ads from your blog. Even big money makers who cannot quite see amazing value in what they do might offer crappy advertising advice.

But the blogs which rake in serious google adsense earnings know the drill; create great, targeted, content, advertise early, advertise often, and you might just earn yourself a wonderful living by partnering with Google to post ads.

10: Make ‘Em Big Big ads get noticed. Big ads get clicked. Big ads can generate bigger ad revenue. Revisit the NJ Turnpike example. Advertisers pay big bucks for big, eye-catching ads because obvious works. Right? Small ads go unnoticed. Big ads get noticed. Point blank.

Post big ads to snag attention spans. Get more clicks. Boost your google adsense earnings.

11: Try Not to Increase Google Adsense Earnings I know this sounds stupid but let me tell you a story. I posted 50 to 60 short, 1 minute to 30 second long videos a day. Good ones too. All to boost ad revenue. But it did not work because Google wants each blog post to be a resource. Advertisers wish to post on masterpieces of work, not quick and simple pieces of work.

Go above and beyond by detaching from outcomes. Follow each tip religiously. You will see a healthy jump in google adsense earnings by being disciplined.

Conclusion Simple works. Smart, persistent work, works. Boost your ad revenue by creating insane value and building your network, and by following a few basic tips daily.

Be persistent. Detach from outcomes.

10 Must Do Rules for Effective Email marketing

8/29/2013

Email marketing, when done well, can be a very cost-effective way of reaching your target audience. It can help you to build and maintain good relationships with prospective customers, existing clients and referrers, and spread the word about your products and services.

Here, are our 10 top tips for making your email marketing campaigns more effective – including a list of words and phrases to avoid if you want to stay out of the spam box.

1. Have a purpose - the key to a successful email marketing campaign is getting your aims and objectives right from the start. You need to decide the purpose of your campaign whether that’s to find new customers, get additional business from existing customers or to build relationships with clients and prospects.

2. Get your mailing list together – once you know your objective you can start pulling together a well-targeted and qualified mailing list – and remember that quality is far more important than quantity. As your email campaign moves forward, keep an eye on building your list. Even if it is just a case of making sure when you meet someone in your target group, to ask them if they're happy to receive your e-newsletter and remember to add them to your database.

3. Decide what software to use – you can use your email system such as Outlook but it has its limitations. As an alternative, you could choose to use an email marketing software package, which would enable you to send out emails and e-newsletters laid out like web pages, containing graphics. These make it easier to deal with unsubscribers and obtain useful statistics to help you measure the success of your campaigns. This software is usually either paid for on a monthly or annual subscription basis, or with a fee per message sent, or a combination of both. Some are hosted micro-sites in themselves, which can provide additional inbound links to your own website and help with Google rankings.

4. Content is king – great content is essential. Remember (particularly with B2B marketing) you are not so much trying to sell your services/product directly, but more to engage with your audience and to develop your position as an expert in your field.  If people have confidence in you and believe you can meet their needs, they will buy from you. Try to keep the content short and easy to scan. Most recipients aren't going to read the full text of your email. They're going to scan it for key points that they may be interested in. Keep your text short (very small paragraphs or bullets) and use font bolding and additional colours to highlight words or phrases that you know will be important to your readers.

5. Include obvious links - the main purpose of your email is to drive traffic to your website. Without driving clicks to your website, recipients can't convert to sign-ups or customers. The key to accomplishing this is, quite simple; capitalize on every moment where a reader may feel compelled to click. Include lots of links and make sure that your links look like links. Using strong calls to action and even authoritative "click here" messaging will also help you.

6. Minimize your use of images - always keep in mind that an email is not a print mail piece. Many of your recipients will not see the images included in your email, which means that every image you include can be wasted space. Use well coded html instead of image-heavy design. Never send an email that is simply one big image and certainly don't put any messaging in an image that a user must see to complete the action you want from an email (i.e. "click here" or "order now" messages).

7. Words and phrases to avoid in your email content - there are about 200 words and phrases that can get you into spam trouble with your email content. That's not to say that you can't ever use these words, but it is to say that you should minimize them and certainly don't use them in the subject line. Here are 20 "email disaster words and phrases." If you're having a problem staying out of the spam or junk folder, these are the words that are most likely to be putting you there.

The more that you use the above words, the more likely you are to experience deliverability problems. Be aware of these "disaster" words and know that if you over-use them or begin to experience deliverability problems they are your likely culprits.

8. Commit and plan – good email marketing is a sustained process rather than a one off. In our experience this is one area where people fall down.  Publishing your first e-newsletter is a great feeling, but it is publishing your 5th, 10th or 20th when the process really starts to work. It’s not about sending one every week, but more about looking at what you have to say, and how often you can practically resource producing good quality content. Planning the frequency and content of emails should simply be a part of the on-going management process and should dovetail with other activities (see rule 10).

9. Measure your success – if you use a software system (rather than Outlook) it should provide you with a good level of information about how many emails have been sent (and not been caught in spam filters), which parts of the email have been read and which links have been clicked. This will help you to evaluate the success of your campaign – for a B2B campaign a good opening rate is around 20–30%. It will also provide insights to your sales team who can identify those people show interest in a particular product, service or news item.

10. Join it up - email should not be seen in isolation, but rather as an element of a joined-up marketing approach. Often email can be used to support and promote other activities (e.g. events or exhibitions) and in turn, these activities will feed great content into the email process. Although email is a great tool, it is not a magic wand, and to be effective it needs to be used as a tool in a joined-up marketing programme. When it is used in this way, it is a great resource for engaging and communicating effective messages within your target market – which is fundamentally what marketing is about.

Follow these 10 golden rules, and you will be well on the way to delivering an effective email marketing programme
